If you could describe what it’s like to be a Bears fan, the sum of this game would fit the bill. An absolute fucking mess sprinkled with some good, some awful, and somehow, a win. Coming off the high of kicking the shit out of the Cowboys, this game had that classic “Trap Game” feel. Week three against the Cowboys matched up a mediocre o-line against a mediocre d-line, giving Caleb all the time in the world to pick apart a suspect defense. Coming into Las Vegas, you have the other worldly Maxx Crosby going up against a group of linemen who continue to struggle. The results were a man in Crosby who in all honesty should get a game ball, despite the loss.
Crosby was in the backfield constantly, tipping balls left and right, and even picking them off from his own tip. He made Caleb Williams uncomfortable the entire game. But let’s not get too far into the Offense just yet. The Bears defense continue to be an enigma. So many ups and downs that it will make you nauseous. They managed to pick off Geno Smith three times, two of which from Kevin Byard, and caused Ashton Jeanty to lose a fumble. Yet, over the game, they were gashed over and over by the running game led by both Jeanty and Raheem Mostert. The lack of a pass rush continues to be a problem as well as the lack of any sort of run defense, yet somehow, despite the injuries, the secondary continues to play well. Trying to look at the positive, there is clearly some talent there, and hopefully an offseason loading up could really help the defense turn a corner next year.
Had I told you before the game that the Bears defense would have four turnovers while the offense has five drives start within the opponents 50 yard line, you would have assumed it was a blowout. An offense cannot ask for a more stacked deck in their favor than that, yet the Bears almost blew the game had it not been for the heroics of Josh Blackwell on special teams with the blocked field goal to save the win over the Raiders 25-24. The Bears now get to celebrate their way into a bye week, giving them plenty of time to fix their shit while also working to get healthy for the Washington Commanders.
The Negatives: Despite the turnovers, the defense continues to struggle with the run and lacks any real pass rush. The offensive line continues to be a question mark, playing better than last year, but still leaving you uneasy each week. The lack of a running game continues to be an issue and while we are at it, throw in Kmet’s awful drop and two false start penalties.
The Positives: Turnovers! Blocked field goal! Rome Odunze’s stock continues to rise. Caleb Williams, despite running for his life, continues to improve. He has strung together some strong starts over his last ten games, as pointed out by Danny Parkins over on Twitter.

I fully expected to go to bed frustrated with a Bears loss. Instead I will go to bed happy, but concerned over the Caleb Williams vs Jayden Daniels rematch on the horizon.
